How a report is handled
When a report is submitted via Vespa Alert, it goes through several steps to allow proportionate, safe handling that is useful for Asian hornet monitoring in Belgium, depending on the arrangements available locally.
Important: Vespa Alert facilitates information flow, validation and follow-up. Depending on the territory, handling may be carried out by Vespa Hunters, by a municipality using the institutional area, or by a mandated person. Never attempt to intervene yourself.

From reception to status update.
- Review of the information provided (photo + context).
- Initial triage: likely nest / other insect / uncertain case.
- If needed: request for additional information (clearer photo, angle, height, access).
- If confirmed or likely: the report is considered “to be handled / to be monitored”.
- Forwarding is not automatic in every case.
- If active Vespa Hunters are present in the territory, the report may be forwarded to them.
- If a municipality has access to the institutional area, handling is managed by the municipality or by the mandated person.
- The status may also be validated based on reliable elements: photo, precise comment or information indicating that the nest has been neutralised.
- Status updates (pending, confirmed, treated, etc.).
- Reduction of duplicates and better visibility of processing.
- Analysis and spatio-temporal monitoring of pressure.
- Possible exports for consolidation and inventories.
